I imagine your retreat is a little busier, and that one is more likely to be poked in this position.
That used to be true. Not these days, of course. But there are still guys brave(?) enough to remain ass up until they snare someone. I like the idea of it... in theory. The practicality is quite another thing. The unknown is fun, until it becomes known and turns out to be something you'd rather not get to know at all.
There have been adventures that had me shaking my head when I came to my senses (so to speak). And I understand your question mark with 'brave'; I can't help but wonder which part of the anatomy does the thinking at times.
